It was originally reported that five people died, but the sheriff-coroner clarified the numbers Wednesday to four people were killed.Six people who suffered major injuries were airlifted to nearby hospitals. Five patients are now listed in serious condition and one patient is listed in fair condition. At least 15 others were also taken to hospitals by ambulance. According to trauma surgeons at Doctors Medical Center, injuries from the bus crash include amputations, head wounds and neck injuries. The rest of the passengers -- who suffered minor injuries or were uninjured -- were taken to the Merced CHP office, CHP Officer Moises Onsurez said.

There were at least 30 passengers on the bus, which was headed from Mexico, with stops in Los Angeles, Livingston and Sacramento on the way to Washington state, officers said.

All lanes were reopened by 7:30 p.m.Jennifer Rivera, 12, was traveling from Sonora, Mexico with her two uncles to Quincy, Washington when the bus crashed. "I woke up and I was lying on the floor and I think (the bus) crashed into a post," Jennifer Rivera said in Spanish. "The bus split open and that's how I got out. My arm was scratched and it hurt a lot."Jennifer and the CHP don’t know where the uncles are at this time. Family friends picked up Jennifer and took her to their home in Visalia.Jennifer said she was going to live with her aunt in Washington in order to study in the U.S. Right now, she and her family are waiting to hear back about her uncles. The driver of the bus, identified as Mario David Vasquez, 57, of Los Angeles, suffered major injuries in the crash, Onsurez said. The bus was registered to Autobuses Coordinados USA Inc., out of Southern California. This was the first “reportable crash” for the company, according to federal records.Federal inspectors noted 23 vehicle maintenance violations since 2014.

Eight were severe enough for inspectors to pull buses from service. Three of those were for brake issues. In January 2015, the company was fined $3,200 for not ensuring the vehicles had safe and operable parts. The bus involved in the crash Tuesday was last inspected April 28, 2016. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration found the bus had “no or defective brake warning device.” In other words, the brake light wasn’t working. In February, the same bus was pulled from service in Oregon because the driver was driving with a suspended license. Officials have not said who that driver was or if it is the same driver involved in Tuesday’s crash. The company has eight drivers listed with federal regulators. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.Store LocatorYou'll find Wicked Good Snacks at the following locations.
