Carny, also spelled carnie, is an informal term used in North America for a traveling carnival employee, and the language they use, particularly when the employee runs a game ("joint"), food stand ("grab" or "popper"), or ride at a carnival. The term "showie" is used synonymously in Australia. Carny is thought to have become popularized around 1931 in North America, when it was first colloquially used to describe one who works at a carnival.[1] The word carnival, originally meaning a "time of merrymaking before Lent," came into use circa 1549. The carny vocabulary is traditionally part of carnival cant, a secret language. It is an ever-changing form of communication, in large part designed to be impossible to understand by an outsider.[2] As words are assimilated into the culture at large, they lose their function and are replaced by more obscure or insular terms.

[] Most carnies no longer use cant, but some owners/operators and "old-timers" still use some of the classic terms. In addition to carny jargon, some carnival workers used a special infix ("earz" or "eez" or "iz") to render regular language unintelligible to outsiders. This style eventually migrated into wrestling, hip hop, and other parts of modern culture. The British form of fairground cant is called "Parlyaree". ^ The Secret History of Carnival Talk ^ [1] Archived July 8, 2010, at the Wayback Machine. ^ [2] Archived March 13, 2008, at the Wayback Machine. Article History (8) Comments (5) Before you drive in France, ensure that you have a High Visibilty Jacket for the driver and, ideally, for all occupants. The law came into effect on 1st July 2008 making a requirement for the driver of the car to wear a high-viz upper body garment (waistcoat, jacket, anorak) if the car is immobilised at the side of the road or on a hard shoulder and the driver has to get out of the car.

The jackets have to be within reach and inside the car - not in the boot. The jacket should carry the correct CE mark to show that it meets the current legal requirements. A warning triangle is also obligatory under the same law - this may be kept in the boot though.

When hiring a car, check that a triangle and sufficient jackets (gilets) are provided. Outside of built-up areas, bicyclists are now obliged to wear high-viz clothing at night or during periods of poor visibility (fog) under the same law. However, motorcyclists are EXEMPT from these regulations. © 2017 TripAdvisor LLC All rights reserved. TripAdvisor Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.Israeli police on Monday appealed to the public to help apprehend a man they described as “the polite bank robber,” who they said had struck at least eight times in central Israel in recent weeks. The man, who has been filmed on security cameras entering several banks, makes no attempt to disguise himself. He is generally clad in a baseball cap, jacket and T-shirt, and is both unarmed and apologetic, the police said. Believed to be a native Israeli, fair-skinned and apparently in his 30s, he approaches the tellers and asks politely that they hand over money from their tills. “He asks them to help,” according Channel 2 reported, “and generally apologizes for what he is doing.

He explains to his victims that he has fallen on hard times financially.” Evidently, the approach is effective. Police believe he has obtained some NIS 100,000 — a little over $25,000 — in his series of civilized thefts to date. The police recently set up a special team to track him down, without success. Hence Monday’s appeal to the public for assistance. It is not entirely clear what precise crime they would charge him with, however, if and when he is apprehended. The police did not indicate that he used threats or menaces to obtain the cash. The polite thief is not the first bank robber to capture the Israeli public’s imagination for eluding capture. In 1990, the so-called “motorcycle bandit,” Ronnie Leibowitz, robbed 21 banks, mainly in the Tel Aviv area, before he was caught. He admitted to all the crimes and repaid the money, and ultimately served eight years in jail. Unlike his polite counterpart, however, he was armed.Skip to main content

"Nice leather motorcycle chaps" "Nice chaps, wellbuilt, rode in 45deg weather legs stayed warm. I'm 6'3" the length was perfect" Great Value Bought chaps for wife, based on a friend's recommendation. Great value and construction! I NEVER EXPECTED THESE CHAPS TO BE OF THE QUALITY THAT THEY WERE. I'VE LOOKED EVERYWHERE ON THE INTERNET TO FIND SOMETHING LIKE THESE, AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL. I'M NOT A FIRST TIME CUSTOMER TO YOUR SITE AND WILL CONTINUE TO ALWAYS FIND "SOMETHING I JUST CANT' LIVE WITHOUT". Lined Biker Leather Chaps Review THESE CHAPS ARE AMAZING! THE FIT IS TRUE TO SIZE AND THE VALUE WAS AN ADDED PLUS. ESPECIALLY FOR SOMEONE THAT IS LOSING WEIGHT. DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND ALOT ON SOMETHING I MIGHT ONLY BE ABLE TO WEAR FOR ONE RIDING SEASON.

HAVE BOUGHT OTHER ITEMS FROM JAFRUM IN THE PAST AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANYTHING. I'LL BE BACK, YOU CAN BET ON THAT. Insulated Chaps LC403 Review Got my chaps in... good quality...size is just a little bigger ...over all great quality Loved Them! I have never ordered chaps before and I figured that the worst that could happen is I return them if they don't fit. I got them yesterday and they are perfect. Fit is wonderful and aside from needing to trim the bottom since I'm a little short they are wonderful. Nice heavy leather for riding up here in Minnesota. I also ordered a vest and helmet and I couldn't be happier. I will DEFINATELY be ordering again from you. Z/O Insulated Leather Chaps with Braids Review These are nice chaps, I really like the fact that they have a zip out lining, I ordered 2 pair, one for me, one for my husband, then had to send my husbands back for a larger size, the 1st pair they sent were fine, other than too small, the second pair fit, but had an awful smell to them, had to hang them outside to air out, the smell fades eventually, but doesn"t go away entirely.

I don't know what that's all about, but overall they are nice. Leather Chaps LC403 Review Love the fact that they were longer than most chaps you see. The length is perfect. I am 5'9" 170 pounds. Would definitely recommend them to friends. Worth It! Leather Chaps LC 403 Review On a picture it looks much better, just let you know, but, generally - not bad at all! SIZE: I took exactly my size, not one bigger as suggested and it is just Perfect (other way it would be bigger by size, and for chaps being bigger looks just agly). BTW I desided to cut braids not because zipper (if you are accurate and are not rushing it "works" together perfect) - simply visually it was a bit ..."stupid" :-) I left about inch or less... Nice Chaps I was surprised by the quality of these chaps. I did a lot of research on chaps before I bought and I have to say that these are the heaviest leather I have seen. I also love the insulated liners which keep me very warm. I didn't think I would like the fringe and I thought I would probably cut it off, but i LOVE it.
